LCD View Screen and Color Viewfinder
The 2.5" view screen makes it easier to compose sensational shots from any angle. It swivels and flips for maximum handling comfort and flexibility. It also tucks neatly away when bright shooting conditions make the eyecup viewfinder the preferred way to shoot.

16x Optical Zoom Lens plus 320x Digital Zoom
This Canon optical zoom lens perfectly transforms distant subjects into dramatic close-ups with absolutely no loss in image quality. The digital zoom extends the magnification to an amazing 320x, revealing details too distant to be seen with just the eye alone. The scope from wide panorama to super telephoto is outstanding.

Optical Image Stabilizer
Canons optical expertise produced the finest method of image stabilization available. It optically corrects camera shake so the video always looks smooth, steady and natural whether shooting hand-held at full telephoto or even from a moving vehicle. Unlike the electronic method on other models, the optical method is the perfect complement to the outstanding picture quality of DV and offers superior shake reduction, especially when light levels are low.

FlexiZone AF/AE
This exclusive Canon auto focusing and auto exposure feature is both practical and creative! Use FlexiZone AF when your main subject is off-center or when you choose to smoothly shift focus between foreground and background...just like they do in the movies. Use the controller to move the FlexiZone anywhere in the frame and press the exposure button so the ULTURA exposes for the subject you re focusing on.

Program Auto Exposure
Ensures great video results even in challenging shooting conditions. Select the program that matches your scene and the ULTURA adjusts internal controls for perfect video every time. Choose from Easy Recording, Auto, FlexiZone, Sports, Portrait, Spotlight, Sand & Snow and Low Light.

Auto Editing Function
Shooting is the process of gathering footage, but editing is where the video is really made. With Canon's built in Auto Editing Function and virtually any VCR, video footage can be easily and effortlessly edited. Create more stimulating and memorable videos with up to 20 scenes per edit using this feature to shorten long shots, change the order or delete scenes. You can even preview your edits before they are automatically recorded to a tape in your VCR.

IEEE1394 DV Terminal
The ULTURA is equipped with a DV IN/OUT terminal that conforms to IEEE1394. It takes just a single digital cable to transfer or copy your videos in pure digital form to your DV compatible computer or another Canon DV camcorder.

Use the optional DK-1 DV Capture Kit and your PC computer to grab video frames or still images from the ULTURA and edit, enhance or retouch the images with PhotoSuite software by MGI that's included. You can choose to print your images on a Canon color printer or send them over the Internet.

Digital Effects
Choose from a variety of fades and special effects to enhance the look of your videos including black, vertical wipe and horizontal wipe fades and strobe, art, sepia and black & white effects.

Digital Photo Mode
The ULTURA has the technology to capture digital still pictures as well, making it possible to combine still images and video on a single cassette or shoot more than 500 still images alone. Each still image is recorded for approximately 6 seconds along with audio for narration or verbal notes.

Manual Controls
In addition to being fully automatic, the ULTURA offers manual control over focus, exposure, white balance and shutter speed.

PCM Digital Stereo Sound
The ULTURA is complete with selectable audio modes: 16 bit and 12 bit. 16 bit, the highest quality, produces better than CD quality, two channel sound on one track. The 12 bit mode divides the audio track into two, recording two channels on one track while leaving the remaining track open for post production audio recording with separate editing gear.

Built-in Speaker
Gain a vivid impression of your recordings instantly, using the built-in speaker to listen to the sound track while reviewing the picture on the LCD screen.

Time Code
This precisely identifies each recording down to the individual frame, showing the hour, minute, second and frame in the display. Ultura uses a "drop-frame" system that is close in accuracy to the time code used on professional equipment.

Data Code
Data code recorded separately from the video signal allows you to display or hide the date and time as required. In addition, you can choose to display other data - shutter speed and exposure settings - alongside.

LP Mode
Ultura can record and play back tapes in long play mode (LP). LP extends tape usage by 1.5 times giving you up to 90 minutes from a single 60 minute MiniDV cassette.

Composite and S-Video Output
The Ultura body has a mini plug that provides composite video and stereo audio outputs for easy connection to your television. For higher quality video output, the unit has an S-video terminal.

World Clock
There is no need to reset the clock when you travel across time zones. All you need to do is tell the camera where you went, and it will make sure that the correct date and time is shown at playback
