Setting the standard for affordable, high-quality digital video, the DCR-VX2000, offers state-of-the-art DV recording with a 2 ½-inch plasma LCD monitor, digital still photography capability with Memory Stick media and extremely high resolution for advanced imaging needs.

A successor to the best-selling DCR-VX1000 -- the DCR-VX2000 incorporates state-of-the-art CCDs to deliver even higher resolution images, a high-quality 2 ½-inch plasma LCD screen enabling instant playback, and the ability to capture still images either direct to Memory Stick media or from a single frame of video footage. Still images are saved in 640 x 480 (VGA) image size, making them useful as "still video grabs" during filming or for transferring into documents, e-mails or on-screen presentations. The supplied Memory Stick USB adapter allows for fast and easy Memory Stick media connectivity to virtually any PC.

Highest Quality Digital Audio and Video:

Equipped with a new 3-CCD imaging system (380,000 pixels each), the VX-2000 records up to 530 lines of horizontal resolution and outstanding digital video quality. In addition, Super HAD™ progressive scan CCD technology offers a S/N (signal-to-noise) ratio that is double that of the DCR-VX1000. The result is a sharper picture and natural, lifelike color reproduction--even flesh tones.
Progressive Scan CCDs capture a complete frame of video rather than interlacing two separate fields to produce a video frame. This high performance system eliminates the stair stepping effect that can be seen in standard interlaced systems when capturing still images. Images are sharp and clear with excellent definition.
12x (6-72mm or 43.2-518.4mm in 35mm equivalent) 58-millimeter aspherical glass zoom lens provides exceptional detail and clarity with none of the geometric distortion associated with large spherical lenses, while a 2-position neutral density filter compensates for unique lighting situations such as studio lights or direct sunlight.
Optical Super SteadyShot stabilization system uses motion sensors and optical lenses to eliminate high frequency shake and vibration--without compromising picture quality.
Records PCM digital stereo audio in two modes: 16-bit modes offers CD-quality stereo sound on one track, while the 12-bit mode records stereo on two tracks so you can add background music or voice-overs later without disturbing the original soundtracks.

Editing video is made easier with drop frame time code and built-in 20 segment assemble editor. In addition, the DCR-VX2000 can connect directly to any IEEE1394-enabled PC, with an optional i.LINK digital cable. By combining digitally recorded video with a PC, you can record, edit and produce professional quality, digital videos that was once limited by the high cost of production.
i.LINK (IEEE-1394) DV Interface allows high speed bi-directional digital communication between any two devices equipped with an i.LINK interface, including camcorders, VCRs, capture cards, and computers.

Conveniences:

2.5-inch precision SwivelScreen plasma LCD (200,000 pixels) provides excellent viewing clarity with improved resolution, making images sharp and detailed during playback or recording. The high-quality 2-½-inch plasma LCD screen enables the DCR-VX2000 to playback footage for on the spot editing. Also has a precision color viewfinder with180,000 pixels.
InfoLithium Battery with AccuPower Meter System means no "Memory Effect" like other batteries, while the AccuPower meter continuously displays the battery time remaining in minutes, in the viewfinder or LCD screen.
Incorporating Sony’s Stamina Power Management System, the VX2000 can record for up to 9 hours on one charge of the optional NP-F960 InfoLithium battery.
Analog composite and S-Video inputs let you convert or record any NTSC video source to DV for archiving

Still Imaging Features:

Capture up to 60 JPEG (640 x 480) compressed images to the supplied 4MB Memory Stick in standard mode. Sony’s Memory Stick media, the size of a stick of chewing gum, is a durable and reliable solid state storage media with a secure 10-pin connection and erasure protection.
Memory Mix allows you to mix or key stored images to the live image allowing logo insertion and/or mix effects.
Supplied USB reader (MSAC-US1) allows fast up and downloading of still images from a Memory Stick, while the bundled PictureGear 4.1 Lite software facilitates transfer of digital still images from the camera as well as manipulation and cataloging.
