• Powerful Home Theater Receiver
  The HTR-5440 is a 5-channel receiver providing the finest performance and processing available for music and video sound. The 5 channels are: Left/Right Main, Front Center, Left/Right Rear Effects. Yamaha's Digital Sound Field Processing, Cinema DSP and Tri-Field Processing are all included as are Dolby Surround Pro Logic and Dolby Digital processing. Also, the HTR-5440 provides Silent Cinema and all channel stereo.
• High Performance LSIS And Other Circuit
  The receiver incorporates high density Cinema DSP circuitry, utilizing Yamaha's 32-bit YSS-928 LSI, two decoding LSIs, and low impedance drive amplifier featuring superior power transistors, and gigantic heat sinks.
• Discrete Power Transistors
  Discrete power transistors are used in the amplifier section to provide the cleanest sound possible. The amplifer delivers 80 watts each to five channels.
• 26 Sound Field Modes -- Including 70mm Cinema DSP, Tri-Field Processing DSP
• Built-In Dolby Digital Decoding
  The new Dolby Digital system is a fully discrete system providing 5.1 channels of sound. Five are full-frequency channels, and the sixth is a low frequency effects channel.
• Built-In DTS
  Like Dolby Digital, DTS is a discrete 5.1 channel system. It uses a higher bit-rate for greater resolution and is available on DVDs, laser discs, and music CDs.
• Tri-Field Processing
  Yamaha's exclusive Tri-Field Processing which applies Digital Sound Field Processing technology to Dolby Digital and DTS to create a true movie theater experience in the home. It develops independent enhanced sound fields for the front signals as well as for left and right surround.

  With three fully assignable digital inputs (2 optical and 1 coaxial), the HTR-5440 can accommodate digital sources such as DVD, CD, LD, Cable/Sat, D-TV and MD.
• 4 Audio/Video And 4 Audio-Only Inputs
  This receiver incorporates four sets of audio/video inputs and four audio-only inputs. Includes one set of A/V inputs on the front panel for fast and easy connection.
• Low Impedance Drive Capability And Impedance Switching
  Yamaha's famed low impedance drive circuitry is included in this receiver so that it can handle virtually all loads and a wide variety of speakers. For further speaker matching, the amplifier can set for either 4- or 8-ohm speakers.
• Linear Damping Factor Circuit

  Accentuates the bass by adding a 7 dB boost at around 70 Hz.
• A/B Speaker Selector
  Allows selection of either a first set of speakers main speaker or a second or both.
• Sleep Timer
  Permits a delayed receiver turn off. Can be set up to two hours in 30 minute increments.
• 40-Statiom Direct Access Preset Tuning
  Up to 40 preset AM and FM stations can be grouped in five groups eight stations. These groupings make it easy for family members to easily access their favorite stations or to have musical genres, such as all the jazz stations, grouped together.
• Binding Post Speaker Terminals accept banana plugs, spade connectors, and a variety of speaker wire, including heavy gauge cable.
• Complete Home Theater Speaker System
  The six-speaker system includes the 6-speaker NS-P220 for the front, center, and surround speakers and a Yamaha subwoofer which delivers low bass,(important for effective home theater). Each magnetically shielded speaker in the NS-P220's L/C/R/Surround ensemble is a two-way design utilizing a 3" woofer and 1/2" tweeter. Since the speakers are identical, they provide a seamless surround effect.
• Dramatic Bass
  The low bass YHT-18 system is provided by the Yamaha's Advanced Active Servo Technology subwoofer. It features a 6 1/2" driver and 50 watt amplifier to deliver the sonic punch needed for home theater. It is magnetically shielded, so it can be placed near a TV without degrading the picture. A volume control and two-position high-cut filter allow for seamless transitions from subwoofer to full-range speakers.
• Signal Sensing
  The subwoofer will automatically activate when its circuitry senses an audio signal and will turn off when the signal has ceased for several minutes.
• All speakers are magnetic shielded, so they can be placed near a TV or monitor and cause no picture degradation.
