The Coolpix 990 has a 3.34 mexapixel CCD with true [non-interpolated] image resolution of 2048 x 1536 to offer easy cropping and unsurpassed print quality. An incredible file size of almost 10MB lets you crop and print images that rival film in size.

High Performance:

USB interface makes downloading 2048 x 1536-pixel images to a PC or Mac lightning fast and easy.
Offers unprecedented 2 frames per second full resolution image capture so there is no delay between shots. In cases where ultra-high speed is paramount, the Coolpix 990 offers 320 x 240 Quarter-VGA resolution at a pulse- quickening 30 frames per second for up to 80 frames.
Still images can also be brought to life in the movie mode (shoots 40 seconds Quarter-VGA Motion-JPEG at 15 frames per second.

Professional Exposure Control:

Multi-Area autofocus, as well as a 7-blade iris diaphragm and four exposure modes including automatic, shutter priority, aperture priority and manual. Exposure compensation and auto bracketing capabilities are included.
50-step manual focus and full manual exposure operation allows creative control well beyond that of any other digital camera in its class. Incorporates Nikon's exclusive 256 element Matrix metering and 256 element Matrix white balance to provide the best possible exposure and color balance in every shot.

Nikon Optics:

Superbly-crafted 3x Zoom-Nikkor lens offers the 38-115mm equivalent of a 35mm camera). There is also a virtually stepless digital zoom up to 4x magnification for a total of 12x or 460mm telephoto. Add the optional 2x teleconverter and you get the equivalent of an unbelievable 920mm telephoto. Photographers who thrive on close-ups can get as close as 0.8 inches with the built-in macro lens.
In addition to the 2X, the Coolpix 990 accepts all optional Coolpix lenses and accessories, including the fisheye and wide-angle lenses.

Sleek and rugged, the Coolpix 900’s slim, compact swivel design sports a charcoal grey matte finish and is encased entirely in an all-metal magnesium chassis for the ultimate in lightness and durability.
Has an exclusive focus area selector and thumb-operated command dial
CompactFlash card is inserted from the side of the body so it can be removed without detaching the camera from a tripod.
You can download images directly from the Coolpix 990 through the built-in USB port, or, for uninterrupted shooting, remove the USB-enabled digital film card from the camera, slip it in to the optional Lexar JumpShot cradle and plug the other end of the cable into the USB port of a PC or Mac. The operating system immediately recognizes the digital film card as another drive, and the photo images appear as individual files. The photos can then be transferred by dragging and dropping them to the computer's hard drive.
Optional SK-E900 Multi-Flash flash bracket allows you to connect up to 5 Nikon Speedlights to light up any scene.
1.8-inch 110,000 pixel LCD monitor lets you review and preview your pictures so you get only the shots you want. And delete those you don’t. Also has a real-image optical viewfinder.
Composite video output (NTSC or PAL) allows you to immediately preview your images on a TV or monitor

Software Information

The new Nikon CoolPix990 includes some great software .
However, the first shipments of the CoolPix990 camera will not include "Great Photo!" image manipulation software.This software is not necessary to operate the camera nor will it keep you from enjoying or using your CoolPix 990 fully.
