A deluxe version of the GPS 12, the high-performance GPS 12XL adds worldwide database of city locations, and more detailed coverage for a specific geographic region, as well as audible alarms and external antenna hook-up. So if your idea of an outdoor adventure means getting way off the beaten path, you’ll have complete peace of mind knowing that you can rely on the GPS 12XL to get you back to civilization.

The GPS 12XL features a differential-ready, 12-parallel channel GPS receiver that continuously tracks and uses up to 12 satellites to compute and update your position. It offers amazingly fast satellite aquisition and tight satellite lock-even under tree cover. But more than just an ultra-reliable receiver, the GPS 12XL is loaded with navigation information including 106 map datums and 7 grid formats, plus advanced orienteering features like user datum/UTM/and user grid formats to define your own map parameters. Store your position as one of 500 waypoints or add it to any of 20 routes.

There are also 9 proximity waypoints to mark and steer clear of dangerous areas, and GARMIN's innovative TracBack™ function. A veritable "breadcrumb trail" TracBack will reverse your track log and help you navigate your way back home. Advanced navigation features like enhanced moving map graphics, average and maximum speed data, and trip timers are also included.

The GPS 12XL features rugged military-tough construction in a waterproof case. But while tough on the outside, it’s operation is easy and logical. The keypad is designed for one-handed and the largecrisp display gives you a clear picture of where you are-day or night, rain or shine. As an added bonus, the GPS 12XL also boasts a position averaging feature which diminishes the effects of Selective Availability (SA) upon position error and displays a value that reflects the estimated accuracy of the averaged position.

The GPS 12XL can run for 24 hours on supplied 4 AA batteries, while a variety of accessories can be added like an external antenna and mounting bracket.
