It's the new PV-HD1000 digital VCR from Panasonic. With an optional set top box, it can record a picture with 1080 active lines of resolution–that's over 4 times the resolution of the VHS format!

The real magic begins when the Panasonic Digital VCR is linked to an optional Panasonic Set Top digital decoder. Once connected via an IEEE 1394 digital interface, you'll be able to record and play back all 18 ATSC digital formats, including all variations of HDTV and SDTV with 1080 active lines of resolution! It'll even record all multiple programs, should a station choose to split the HDTV signal. With a Panasonic digital-compatible TV**, digital VCR, and Set Top Box, you can create the ultimate digital experience.

Also Plays VHS Tapes
The Panasonic PV-HD1000 digital VCR, of course, plays DVHS format digital tapes. But so advanced is this new digital VCR that it's also VHS compatible, so you can record and play back programs on standard VHS tapes. The PV-HD1000 even allows you to play tapes recorded in S-VHS mode.***

1 Set-top box is required to view DTV programming, both HDTV and SDTV. Decoder will also allow your current set to display HDTV broadcasts at your set's maximum video capability. An over-the-air antenna may be required.

As of 10/13/98, the standards for Digital Television cable connectivity have not been finalized. The set-top decoder may not be capable of working with your cable system.
